An important part of understanding
the present is having an accurate historical perspective.
Therefore, the TBBP is actively working to gather information
from historical research in or around Tomales Bay. As
our knowledge grows, we will be better able to manage for a sustainable
future.
Environmental
History of Tomales Bay
The bay's ecology has changed dramatically over the
past century, affecting species, ecological communities,
and
the ways humans interact with this environment. The
Tomales Bay Environmental History and Historic Resource
Study
is examining and documenting the changing relationship
between people and nature to help managers evaluate
the
significance of the bay’s resources.
Literature
Review
The TBBP has an ongoing research project to review published
accounts of research performed in Tomales Bay. Wherever
possible, data from these publications are incorporated
into our dataset, especially spatially referenced observations
of species. Additionally, we are working toward indexing
the kinds of studies that have been performed to identify
research gaps. Our Bibliography
serves as a tool for researchers to compare their study
ideas to what has been performed in the past.
